Padre Island National Seashore consists of more than 130 thousand acres of undeveloped dunes, grasslands and sandy beaches. It separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Laguna Madre and is the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the entire world. Padre Island allows visitors to drive on it’s beaches to access remote areas and enjoy 70 miles of coastline. There is abundant wildlife, sand dunes, shelling and tidal flats full of life.
The very north tip of Padre Island is where the residential development is. High rise condos are just along the boardwalk off of Windward Drive and offer spectacular views of the Gulf. The expansive canal communities stretch to the west for miles and Packery Channel gives these residents quick access to world class fishing.
Padre Island has Bird Island Basin long popular with windsurfers and kiteboarders and when the tides allow there can be excellent surfing off the beach. Padre Island is a small community of only 31,000 but has a lot to offer if you enjoy a relaxed, casual lifestyle, great fishing and water sports.
